Persnickety Snickerdoodle

A week pre muffin quest was prime recipe writing time. I spent that week in Pittsburgh where i met an awesome person, chris, from bloomington with face tattoos ( I had previously heard of this person through the punk vine lovingly called "chris with shit on his face"). During one long day spent with chris at ths coffeeshop brainstorming, a mutual acqaintence, matt (or matty pop chart as i knew him first) was brought up. More specifically the fact the matt loves loves snickerdoodle cookies, and would certainly love a snickerdoodle muffin. So these muffins go out to Matt where ever he is, and i will be sure to bring a batch for him the next time I venture to bloomington indiana.

2 1/2 cups of flour
3/4 tsp baking soda
3/4 tsp cream of tartar
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup melted "butter"
1 cup sugar
2 "eggs"
1 cup "milk"
2 tsp vanilla
topping:
3/4 Cup cane sugar
1 1/2 - 2 tbs cinnamon

*Preheat oven to 375

In a large bowl combine flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt. In a separte bowl combine remaining ingredients. Add wet to dry. Stir until just mixed. Spoon into lined muffin tin. Sprinkle sugar mixture liberally over each muffin and pat it in gently. Bake for 20 minutes.

  2. I Looooved that snicker doodle so much! I wondered where this persnickity doodily delicioso got its name from so I looked it up.

The Joy of Cooking claims that snickerdoodles are probably German in origin, and that the name is a corruption of the German word for "snail dumpling" (Schneckennudeln, or cinnamon-dusted sweet rolls).

    mmmmmmm....snail dumplings....
